چکیده:
Sustainable development is a type of development that meets present needs in such a way that it does not reduce the ability of future generations to meet their own needs. The complexity and uncertainty of factors affecting the future development of cities, and the wide range of variables influencing them from the local to the global level, reveal the need to adopt a new approach and thinking in urban planning. Futures studies, as an emerging field of knowledge that can be considered an evolved form of strategic planning, has been used in recent years to respond to conditions of uncertainty, complexity, the interconnectedness of various dimensions of issues, and to map out the future outlook of systems. Using foresight methods in cities and modeling foresight stages within the scope of urban issues can facilitate the promotion of a foresight culture and its application in cities. It can be useful by encouraging participation in solving urban problems and assist urban goals and policies in determining strengths and weaknesses, challenges, and opportunities, so that the city's capability and capacity can be utilized toward progress, development, and the realization of a desirable future. The futures studies approach, by identifying the future opportunities and threats of these fabrics, helps us to make the best use of future opportunities and to prevent the negative consequences of dilapidated urban fabrics as much as possible. Sustainable urban development is the main axis of planning, and urban management, as the custodian of urban affairs, always strives to achieve it. Today's cities face numerous problems in economic, social, physical, environmental, and managerial dimensions. Therefore, examining the dimensions of sustainability and planning to improve the current situation of these fabrics, which act as obstacles to sustainability, is of great importance. This research attempts to examine the current situation and plan for improving it through a futures studies approach in order to achieve sustainability in the limited future.
