چکیده:
Anthology, selection, or literary battle is a term used to refer to a collection of selected works that may include a collection of poems, short stories, plays, articles, hymns, songs, or selected pieces. In the present research, contemporary short story anthologies in Iran have been introduced and reviewed, from the first published anthology, 'Masterpiece of Persian Prose' (1950) by Saeed Nafisi, to 'Short Stories by Female Writers' by Jamal Mirsadeghi (2018). The main goal of this research is to introduce this literary genre and identify the criteria and standards that anthology authors had in mind when selecting stories. In this regard, valuable anthologies are seen that can provide worthy images of the background of the Iranian short story and its authors. So far, only one research article has been conducted in this field. The type of research is fundamental, and the research implementation method was carried out through content analysis with historical considerations. Research findings show that; by examining more than 35 anthologies and observing the commonalities and diversity of the collectors' criteria, reliable images of the status of short story writing in Iran and its characteristics, from the beginning to recent years, can be obtained; although in some cases, anthologists have applied their own ideas and tastes in selecting works or have not mentioned their selection criteria at all. The results of the research clarify that while anthologies familiarize new generations with past experiences and achievements, they can serve as an indirect channel for teaching storytelling and awareness of the history of short story writing in Iran to lovers of contemporary Iranian literature. Furthermore, various types of Iranian short story anthologies were identified with historical, gender, regional, and thematic criteria, which shows that literary taste and criteria for selecting stories have been relative and variable in each period.
