Background and objectives: Crime prevention through ecology is based on simple thinking. The occurrence of various crimes in different societies is largely due to the opportunities available in the environment. Therefore, by making changes in it, an arrangement can be made to reduce the incidence of crimes. The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of ecology on crime prevention in Mazandaran province.Methodology: In terms of its objectives this study is of an applied research type and in terms of its nature it is considered as a descriptive-analytical and survey type. The statistical population of the study consists of all commanders and managers of the second (middle) level of the Police Command of Mazandaran Province in the number of 483 people and the statistical sample according to Cochran's formula is equal to 214 people. To collect research data, a researcher-made environmental questionnaire and a researcher-made crime prevention questionnaire were used, which is a quantitative type. The validity of the questionnaires was confirmed by content validity by respected professors and law enforcement experts and their reliability was obtained using Cronbach's alpha formula as 0.78 and 0.82, respectively. Data were analyzed using correlation, regression and Friedman test using SPSS software.Findings: Findings show that ecology with a coefficient of 0.639 has a positive and significant effect on crime prevention. Also, environmental dimensions (determination of territory, access control, image of the environment, and hardening of the target of crime) have a positive and significant effect on crime prevention. According to Friedman test, the highest mean was assigned to determine the territory with 2.87 and then hardening of the target with 2.77, the environment image with 2.29 and finally access control with 2.06.Results: The results indicate that paying attention to the principles and optimal environmental indicators can have a significant effect on reducing the incidence of crime.

Ghorchi Begi and Mohammadi Janki (1388), in a study titled "The Role of Environmental Design in Crime Prevention," reached these results that by optimizing surveillance opportunities, defining clear and specific territories, and creating a positive image of the environment, criminals can be deterred from committing crimes.
