The symbol has a long and long history in the realm of literature. This term is used in the field of philosophy of language, linguistics, communication and art and literature and its principle is rooted in the semiotic literature of the ancient world. Symbols are a mysterious world and windows to a wide horizon of different human perceptions and experiences. In the field of fictional literature, it is a symbol for illustration and addressing all the issues surrounding it. The study of symbolism in contemporary literature is considered important and valuable in many ways, firstly, by showing the identity and symbols of a work, its value and position among other works becomes more prominent. And second, by introducing the symbolic values of a work to the audience in a deeper understanding and ultimately enjoying it, it helps considerably. The short novel of The Blind Buff by Sadegh Hedayat, which can be dare to be mentioned as the most famous Iranian novel, has attracted the attention of everyone, especially scholars and critics, from the very beginning of publishing, and numerous interpretations and critiques of different points of view were written on it. One of these topics is the author's use of symbolism. In this paper, which has been done by descriptive and analytical method, we aim to deal with the most important symbols in this novel. The result of this essay suggests that the shadow symbol is the greatest and most important symbol in the novel The Blind Buff.
