چکیده:
Objective: The disadvantages and benefits of social cataloging have prevented researchers and scholars from having the same view of the use of social cataloging, especially the use of user tags alongside subject headings in the library catalog. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to provide a systematic overview of researches on the necessity of using social cataloging in libraries and identifying existing research gaps. In this regard, it seeks to answer two fundamental questions: 1. from the perspective of various researchers, how much does it agree with the co-existence of controlled vocabulary and social tags in library catalogs? Is it permissible for users to add their own tags to the library list for the resources they want? Methodology: The research method is systematic review as well as content analysis. For this purpose, related researches were searched in four databases of Google Scholar, Scopus, Emerald and ScienceDirect from 2005 to 2016. After three screening stages, 18 articles in English and one Persian thesis were selected. Then, these sources were carefully studied, and then the research method, research community, goals and results of each research were analyzed using content analysis method by Strauss and Corbin method, and finally they were grouped in categories and subcategories, and the frequency of each category and the authors who used that category was obtained. Findings: In the investigated researches, "overlap and coexistence of tags and controlled vocabulary" were investigated more than other goals and "feasibility of using tags in library catalogs" was less than other goals. Methodologically, "content analysis" is used more than other methods and "survey method" less than other methods in the investigated researches. In the mentioned research the population and sample studied were mainly user tags or subject headings that were analyzed from different perspectives, but users and librarians as a statistical population were less studied. The most common proposal is the "proposal to combine tagging with controlled vocabulary." Conclusion: In answer to the first research question, if we consider social cataloging as a concept of peaceful coexistence of controlled vocabulary alongside social tags and other user-generated metadata, most researchers agree with the evolution of traditional cataloging to social cataloging. But if our idea of social cataloging is to replace social tags, notes, and user views with traditional cataloging, most scholars disagree. The acceptance and welcome of social tagging in library catalogs by users that have been addressed in various studies can be a positive answer to the second research question.
خلاصه ماشینی:
One of the most important features of social catalogs is the tags assigned by users, which, in the form of keywords alongside the subject headings assigned by librarians, assist in the searching, discovery, and retrieval of resources.
The disadvantages and advantages of tagging have caused researchers and experts to not have a unified view regarding the application of social cataloging, especially the use of user tags alongside subject headings in the library catalog.
as well as Lawson refer to the increase in subject accessibility, but Heiman and Gracia Molina concluded that this is only true for popular and frequently used works, and works that have less popularity, because they are less favored by users, receive fewer tags, and provide fewer access points for retrieval; d) Encouraging users to use the library catalog (2 cases); library catalogs that have included social features have attracted more users; e) Suggestion of new subject headings based on user tags (1 case).
However, McGregor & McCluch 4 (2006) do not believe in providing both of them in the library catalog, but rather feel that each should be provided in the area where it is more studied: controlled vocabulary for formal situations such as academic research, and tagging systems for informal situations such as research and entertainment.
