چکیده:
Leaders' speeches at the General Assembly are the essence of the most general and key political positions of actors in the field of international politics, and the linguistic analysis of these texts can contain valuable research results. The speeches of Hassan Rouhani from 2015 to 2018 are the subject of this study, based on John Searle's speech act theory. In response to the question of what the pattern of speech acts in Rouhani's speeches at the General Assembly has been and what connection it has had with its changing contexts, the text of his speeches, while being thematically classified, has been quantitatively calculated based on the distinction of assertive, directive, commissive, expressive, and declarative acts, and the results have been analyzed in connection with the context and in a comparative format. The results show that the volume of acts, in order, was assertive, directive, commissive, expressive, and declarative. Whenever the speech was shorter, commissive and declarative acts decreased, and expressive and directive acts increased. In topics such as the JCPOA or the Iranian presidential elections, the most use was of assertive acts, and in topics such as the Mina tragedy or the Ahvaz terrorist attack, the most use was of directive and expressive acts. In terms of topic volume, the largest share belonged to the JCPOA, which after 2017 was replaced by the topic of criticizing US performance.
