Given the explicitly stated duties of the Guardian Council, in addition to reconciling the resolutions of the Assembly with Sharia and law, supervising the presidential elections, the Assembly of Experts for Leadership, the Islamic Consultative Assembly, and referring to public opinion and referendums are among these duties. Based on Article 99 of the Constitution, the Guardian Council is the supervisory body for the elections of the Assembly of Experts for Leadership, the Presidency, the Islamic Consultative Assembly, and public referendums, so that by supervising them, it may prevent violations, fraud, and potential errors by officials, while also preventing unhealthy competition among electoral candidates; such prevention of potential problems is acceptable to reason and the rational people of any society. Therefore, according to the response to the inquiry of the Guardian Council and also the laws passed by the Islamic Consultative Assembly, the supervision of the Guardian Council over elections will be "investigative supervision.
