" When love for the Exalted God intensifies in the existence of the servant, it stands against any kind of infatuation with this or that, and prepares him to accept the Divine command, to sacrifice, and to give up life and wealth in His way: قُلْ إِنْ كانَ آباؤُكُمْ وَ أَبْناؤُكُمْ وَ إِخْوانُكُمْ وَ أَزْواجُكُمْ وَ عَشيرَتُكُمْ وَ أَمْوالٌ اقْتَرَفْتُمُوها وَ تِجارَةٌ تَخْشَوْنَ كَسادَها وَ مَساكِنُ تَرْضَوْنَها أَحَبَّ إِلَيْكُمْ مِنَ اللَّهِ وَ رَسُولِهِ وَ جِهادٍ في سَبيلِهِ فَتَرَبَّصُوا حَتَّى يَأْتِيَ اللَّهُ بِأَمْرِهِ وَ اللَّهُ لا يَهْدِي الْقَوْمَ الْفاسِقينَ (توبه: 24) Say: If your fathers, your sons, your brothers, your wives, your kindred, the wealth you have accumulated, the commerce you fear will fail, and the dwellings you are pleased with, are dearer to you than Allah and His Messenger and striving in His cause, then wait until Allah brings His command; and Allah does not guide the defiantly disobedient.
The sign of love is to choose the pleasure of the Beloved over everything other than Him. In continuation of this saying, His Eminence said: Whenever the ray of gnosis shines upon the heart, the breeze of love begins to move; and when the breeze of love starts blowing, one finds rest in the shade of the Beloved, prefers the Beloved over everything else, obeys His will, prefers the execution of His commands over everything else, and when one remains steadfast on the carpet of intimacy with the Beloved and strives in fulfilling His commands, one attains the truth of secret longing for the Beloved and proximity to Him. In this statement, after expressing the truth that love springs from gnosis, the Imam (AS) refers to various aspects of the effects of love in the existence of the servant.
