چکیده:
Old age is a sensitive period in human life, and paying attention to the needs and issues of this stage is a social necessity. The aim of the present research was to predict death anxiety in the elderly based on the quality of their relationship with God. The statistical population of the research included all elderly people in Meshgin Shahr in 1397, from whom 200 individuals were selected using random cluster sampling, and they responded to two questionnaires: death anxiety and the quality of relationship with God. For data analysis, Pearson correlation coefficient and multiple regression analysis methods were used at the 0.01 alpha level. The findings showed that among the components of the quality of relationship with God, the component of hope and love for God (as desirable dimensions of relationship with God) predicted death anxiety negatively; and the components of despair, estrangement, and hostility (undesirable dimensions of relationship with God) and the component of fear (as undesirable dimensions of relationship with God) predicted death anxiety positively. In total, 0.76 of death anxiety is predicted by the 6 components of the quality of relationship with God, and among these 6 components, the component of hope in the dimension of faith and the component of despair in the dimension of disbelief are the strongest variables for predicting death anxiety with beta values of -0.401 and 0.315, respectively. The results of the present study showed that the quality of relationship with God can reduce death anxiety in the elderly; therefore, the quality of relationship with God and a desirable relationship with God can be one of the coping strategies for death anxiety.

Studies also show that there is an inverse relationship between secure attachment to God and the feeling of tension in the face of stressful life events, and the image an individual has of God can to some extent moderate the tension caused by these events and increase psychological characteristics and positive emotions such as hope and happiness; in contrast, the presence of anxious attachment to God predicts signs of ـــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــ 1-Thorson, G.
Considering the reviewed studies, it seems that the subject of fear and death anxiety is among the factors that have been neglected in research related to the perception of God and individuals' connection with God. Although in recent decades, studies have been conducted in related fields that have addressed the relationship between humans and God and the mental concept of Him with psychological characteristics; for example, Abdelsayed, L.
4 (2010) found that individuals who have more serious psychological impairments have a more negative image of God (Sadeghi, Assar and Piman Pak, 1393); however, no research has been conducted regarding death anxiety and the type and quality of connection with God. Generally, considering that one of the important challenges for the elderly is fear of death and death anxiety, and this variable plays an important role in maintaining mental health and ـــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــ 1- Abdelsayed, L.
After examining the correlation matrix between variables in Table 2, a regression analysis model was used to determine the contribution of the dimensions of the quality of relationship with God (fear, hope, love, despair, arrogance, and enmity) in predicting death anxiety.
