چکیده:
The expansion of insurance and support coverage and the social security system leads to increased life expectancy, improvement in the status and quality of life of individuals, increase in cultural and health levels, reduction of poverty and balancing income distribution, reduction of risk and uncertainty for the workforce in future years (retirement), and its overall impact in various fields of life (economic-social); therefore, in the present study, the relationship between social security and the human development index in Iran has been investigated. In this research, using theoretical and empirical patterns, based on time series data from 1370-1389, the intended model has been estimated. The results of the model estimation show that the ratio of the number of social insurance beneficiaries to the economically active population and the ratio of covered clients to the active population have a positive and significant effect on the human development index, thus confirming the research hypothesis—based on the positive and significant impact of social security indicators on human development in Iran. However, the ratio of pensioners to the economically active population had a negative effect; consequently, this indicator rejects the research hypothesis regarding the positive impact of insurance coverage on the HDI index. Additionally, other influencing factors (human capital and Gross Domestic Product) also have a positive and significant effect on the human development index. Therefore, the results overall show that social security can, alongside other factors in society, contribute to improving the human development index. Thus, to improve the human development index, more attention must be paid to universal insurance and support coverage.

The Role of the Social Security System on Human Development in Iran 1 Narciss Aminrashti 2 Atefeh Ghorbani Valichali Date of Receipt: 1392/01/21 Date of Acceptance: 1392/03/22 Abstract The expansion of insurance and protection coverage and the social security system leads to an increase in life expectancy, improvement in the status and quality of life of individuals, increase in cultural and health levels, reduction of poverty and balancing income distribution, reduction of risk and uncertainty for the labor force in future years (retirement), and its overall impact in various fields of life (economic-social); therefore, in the present study, the relationship between social security and the human development index in Iran has been investigated.
The results of the model estimation show that the ratio of the number of social insurance beneficiaries to the economically active population and the ratio of clients under coverage to the active population have a positive and significant effect on the human development index; consequently, it confirms the research hypothesis - based on the positive and significant effect of social security indicators on human development in Iran.
Here, with the help of theoretical foundations and empirical studies presented in the previous section, in order to test the hypotheses of this research based on the positive effect of social security indicators, universal coverage of the insurance sector, and universal coverage of the protection sector on the human development index using econometric techniques, a regression model for the period 1370-1389 has been estimated using Eviews7 software.
