The aim of this research was to determine the effectiveness of attachment-based couples therapy on self-knowledge, religious orientation, and marital adjustment in incongruent couples. This research design was a pre-test and post-test type with a control group. The subjects of this research included 60 couples (120 people) as the experimental group and 30 couples (60 people) as the control group, who were randomly selected from incongruent couples visiting family courts or counseling centers and clinics in the city of Tabriz. The experimental group received 9-10 sessions of training using the attachment-based couples therapy method, and the control group received no treatment. The results of the research using the analysis of covariance method showed that attachment-based couples therapy increases self-knowledge, religious orientation, and marital adjustment in incongruent couples.

Discussion and Conclusion This research showed that attachment-based couple therapy increases self-concept, religious orientation, and marital adjustment in incompatible couples.
Additionally, they benefit from the spiritual support resulting from the connection with God; because these individuals make more effort for closeness and proximity to God. In explaining the effectiveness of attachment-based couple therapy training on increasing self-knowledge in incompatible couples, one can refer to the findings of Branden (1376), which state that in any assumed relationship, obtaining a pleasant experience depends on two factors: 1- The extent of reciprocity in thoughts and values that exist between the person and the other party.
