چکیده:
The present research was conducted to determine the relationship between general health and social support with life satisfaction in the elderly. The statistical population consisted of all elderly people aged 60 and above in nursing homes in Tehran, from which 230 elderly individuals were selected as the research sample using a single-stage cluster random sampling method, including 138 women and 92 men. The research method was correlational. Data were collected using General Health Questionnaires (GHQ), Social Support (MOS), and Life Satisfaction Index (LSI) questionnaires and were analyzed using Pearson correlation coefficient and multiple regression statistical methods. The research findings showed that there is a significant relationship between general health and social support with life satisfaction in the elderly. Additionally, there is a significant relationship between the duration of stay in nursing homes and general health, as well as the subscales of somatic symptoms, severe depression, and life satisfaction in the elderly. The components of social dysfunction, severe depression, and social interaction significantly predict life satisfaction. The results of this research suggest evidence that the components of general health and social support explain part of the changes in life satisfaction in the elderly. Furthermore, it can be concluded that the duration of the elderly's stay in nursing homes explains part of the changes in their level of general health and life satisfaction. Overall, the components of general health, social support, and the duration of stay of the elderly in nursing homes explain the satisfaction of the elderly through influencing mediating variables such as feelings of loneliness, ability to control life, independence, decision-making power, self-management, social relationships, and sense of worthiness.
