چکیده:
The present research has been conducted with two objectives. The first objective is to study and identify the demographic aspects of the population and social phenomenon of marriage in the entire country and the provinces of East Azerbaijan, Tehran, Khuzestan, Sistan and Baluchestan, Kurdistan, Gilan, and Lorestan in 2006; the second objective is to gain awareness of the relationship between the average age of marriage (dependent variable) and certain indicators of modernization such as: urbanization rate, literacy rate, women's economic activity rate, employment rate, and employment rate in the industrial sector (independent variables), which has been examined by utilizing the findings of previous studies and demographic and sociological theories, including William Goode's modernization theory. The method of investigation in this research is the secondary analysis of data available in the 2006 general census of population and housing publications, statistical yearbooks, and publications of the National Organization for Civil Registration, which was carried out through indexing and its results have been described qualitatively and quantitatively. From the statistical population of the research, 7 provinces were selected using a probabilistic stratified sampling method by lottery. To present the results and describe and analyze the current situation, descriptive statistics including means and bar and column charts were used, and the correlation between variables was tested using Spearman's correlation coefficient and multiple regression. Research findings showed that the average age of marriage for men in the country based on registration data in 2006 was 26.1 years, and the average age of marriage for women in the country was 21.7 years, and the studied provinces possess distinct marriage age patterns relative to each other. This research showed that the urbanization rate, employment rate, and the proportion of employment in the industrial sector are determining factors in increasing the average age of marriage for men. In other words, as the urbanization rate, employment, and especially employment in the industrial sector increase, the average age of marriage for men also increases. Spearman correlation results show that there is a significant and strong relationship between the average age of marriage for men and the urbanization rate as well as the employment rate in the industrial sector at a 99% confidence level, and a significant relationship with the employment rate at a 95% confidence level. The Spearman correlation coefficient between the average age of marriage for women and the independent variables of the research did not show a significant relationship, which requires conducting other research with larger sample sizes in this field.

The first objective is to study and recognize the demographic aspect of the population and social phenomenon of marriage in the entire country and the provinces of East Azerbaijan, Tehran, Khuzestan, Sistan and Baluchestan, Kurdistan, Gilan, and Lorestan in 1385, and the second objective is to gain awareness of the relationship between the mean age of marriage (dependent variable) and some indicators of modernization such as: urbanization rate, literacy rate, women's economic activity rate, employment rate, and employment rate in the industrial sector (independent variables), which has been investigated by utilizing the findings of previous studies and demographic and sociological theories, including William Goode's modernization theory.
Since any kind of planning and policymaking aimed at creating suitable environments for marriage and removing obstacles that cause late family formation, in addition to the equitable distribution of resources and meeting the needs of provinces to provide grounds for marriage, requires awareness of the current marriage and marital status, this study attempts, while examining the current marital status through estimating demographic marriage indicators such as: marriage postponement, marriage prevalence, permanent celibacy rate, mean age of marriage, general and actual marriage rates, age difference between spouses at the time of marriage in the country and the provinces of East Azerbaijan, Tehran, Khuzestan, Sistan and Baluchestan, Kurdistan, Gilan, and Lorestan, and comparing the marital status in the aforementioned provinces, to examine the impact of certain development and modernization indicators such as: urbanization rate, literacy rate, women's economic activity rate, employment rate, and employment rate in the industrial sector on the age of marriage.
