"Basij is the manifestation of the nation's greatness and an effective internal force of our country" (Supreme Leader, meeting with Basij commanders at Imam Khomeini Prayer Hall, 2013). The appropriate utilization of Basij forces to ensure national security and preserve the ideals of the Islamic Revolution has been and remains one of the country's serious issues. Given the global situation and the threats and opportunities inside and outside the country at any given period, we need to redefine the role of Basij as a fluid divine force to preserve the revolution and the country. With the development of cyberspace, especially with the emergence of the phenomenon of social networks, human societies have undergone noteworthy transformations. Both defenders of truth and opponents of truth use these networks, which has had extensive consequences at the global and regional levels. The Islamic awakening uprisings and the waves of Takfiri groups using social networks for recruitment, organization, deployment, and guidance of popular forces—in a word, popular mobilization—are examples of the consequences of these networks. Using the capacity of social networks makes mobilization necessary. This research was conducted with the aim of providing a conceptual model of the role of Basij in social networks in achieving the goals of the Islamic Revolution. By utilizing existing research as well as interviews with Basij and social network experts, a conceptual framework was proposed and subjected to expert judgment through a questionnaire, and the results were presented. In this research, the views of more than ten experts were used in interviews and more than eighty specialists in the questionnaire. Finally, the conceptual model resulting from the research and suggestions for continuing the research are stated.

Research Background In 2013, at the Security Faculty of the National Defense University, a group study was conducted on the subject of "Social Networks, Opportunities and Threats in National Security," which had the question and its hypotheses were: "From the perspective of the national security of the Islamic Republic of Iran, what opportunities and threats do virtual social networks have, and what is the appropriate model in this regard?" And based on the research conducted and the results obtained from field investigations, the concepts, dimensions, components, as well as the relationships between the variables under consideration, a proposed model has been presented.
Seyyed Saeed Aghaei, in a study conducted in 2012 titled "The Middle East and North Africa Region (Information Dissemination, Organization, and Rapid Expansion of Developments)," has reached the conclusion that social networks played a major role only after the start of revolutions in gaining scope and mobilizing protests; however, they do not have the ability to plan for governing a country or creating democratic institutions, and they cannot be the factor for full achievement of the goals and aspirations of the people and political groups.
