Objective: This research was conducted to investigate the role of employment in the relationship between existential crisis and hope for life among students of Allameh Tabataba'i University. Method: The present research is of a descriptive-correlational type. The statistical population of this research consisted of two groups, employed and unemployed females and males, who were studying in the master's degree program at this university; the sample consisted of 200 subjects, including 118 females and 92 males, selected using the convenience sampling method. For data collection, the Hope for Life questionnaire (Simpson) and the Existential Crisis questionnaire (Ahmadi and Dasghib) were used. For data analysis, Pearson correlation test was used to determine the relationship between variables, and the Z-test was used to show the mediating role of gender. The results of the Pearson correlation test showed that there is a significant relationship between existential crisis and hope for life between girls and boys (p < .001). The results of the Z-test also showed that the gender of individuals does not affect the relationship between existential crisis and hope for life regarding their choice and attitude toward work. However, it is effective in the status of employment. Conclusion: There is a significant relationship between existential crisis and hope for life, and these factors are effective in whether individuals are employed or unemployed.

These questions have prompted various specialists, including psychologists and sociologists, to consider work and occupation as a fundamental and important domain in people's lives from the perspective of the individual's existence, and perhaps people's employment is also rooted in the existential philosophy of their life (Rapoport & Bailyn 3, 1998).
Research Hypotheses There is a significant relationship between existential crisis and hope for life among employed and unemployed students.
Discussion and Conclusion The aim of the present study was to investigate the role of gender and employment in the relationship between existential crisis and hope for life among students of Allameh Tabataba'i University, Tehran.
Another result of this research was that it showed gender cannot have an effect as an intervening factor on the relationship between existential crisis and hopefulness in life.
Another result of the present research was that it showed employment status is effective on the relationship between hope for life and existential crisis.
