چکیده:
Interdisciplinarity is a tendency that has increasingly gained attention in the realm of interconnected, related, or close studies and sciences. Although there are significant disagreements regarding the meaning and concept of this theoretical and practical inclination, it is undeniable that substantial reasons have been presented regarding the necessity of addressing it. In Iran, given the conditions and status of sociology in particular, and social sciences in general, one can pose questions about the functions, obstacles, and dysfunctions associated with this tendency to increase efficiency and proper utilization of these sciences. Therefore, questions can be raised about the opportunities and possibilities arising from an interdisciplinary orientation, the obstacles and challenges facing it, and the disadvantages and dysfunctions resulting from this scientific policymaking for sociological knowledge. Accordingly, the aim of this article is to discuss and examine the necessities and consequences related to reflection and efforts toward creating an interdisciplinary study space in the field of sociology in Iran and to identify the resulting outcomes. This research, utilizing a library-based method, first describes the backgrounds of the formation of interdisciplinary studies. After that, it attempts to examine the status of sociology in Iran in connection with this scholarly tendency. The results of this research show that while the interdisciplinarity of sociological education and research in Iran can overcome some visible deficiencies and shortcomings of social studies, organize productive research programs, and perhaps help in addressing the problematic issues of Iranian society, such a tendency simultaneously faces numerous theoretical obstacles (conceptual, methodological, and theoretical difficulties) and practical obstacles (difficulties arising from the characteristics of the scientific community, the system, and the social lifeworld).

com Journal of Iranian Social Studies, Volume 5, Number 4, Winter 2011 overcome some of the evident deficiencies and shortcomings of social studies, organize productive research programs, and perhaps help in formulating a systematic approach to social problems (problematics) of Iranian society, such a tendency simultaneously faces numerous theoretical obstacles (conceptual, methodological, and theoretical difficulties) and practical obstacles (difficulties arising from the characteristics of the scientific community, the system, and the social worldview).
Although these conditions prevail in a normal and natural context and within a framework of multiple interactions within the scientific community (as an actor in the arena of responding to multiple or emerging needs) and also between this community and the public community (as the actor in which needs are created and identified), and although they represent the unlimited dynamism of the flow of science production and its close connection to social life in developed societies and are essentially consistent with the logic of scientific method and insight (the principle of the temporality of scientific outcomes), in underdeveloped societies, they are reproduced in a mechanical way.
Here, in defense of establishing a link between the two categories of crisis 6 in the sciences and also in the objective situation of collective life, on one hand, and the interdisciplinary nature of studies and research on the other, refers to the efforts of Erich Fromm who, in order to understand the realities of the world in the twentieth century, by crossing familiar disciplinary boundaries, introduced love and creative work as a psycho-political matter as a solution to crisis and a movement towards a healthy society, and in his works moved towards confirming this claim that addressing the issues of contemporary society is not possible except by choosing an interdisciplinary and comprehensive approach (Alavi Pour and Nematpour, 2009: 141).
