چکیده:
In recent years, social researchers in Iran and the world have been under pressure to make their research results practical, in a way that serves policymaking. As a result, the value and credibility of social sciences are seen in their utility. In this article, first the concepts of research, application, and policymaking are examined, and then the factors and obstacles affecting the impact of research on policymaking are studied. Finally, the specific situation of Iran, the characteristics of social research and policymaking, and the relationship between these two are examined. Among the findings of this article are: 1. The relationship between research and social policymaking is often imperceptible, indirect, and long-term. 2. The quality and success of applied research and basic research depend on investment in both, and 3. The practical application of social research in Iran, more than anything and before anything else, requires a change in the political and administrative organization of research in the country, rather than a change at the level of researchers.

Using Social Studies in Policy Making: Global Experiences and Iranian Dilemmas 1 Zohreh Bayatrizi (Received date 2011/04/20, Accepted date 2011/12/21) Abstract In recent years, social researchers in Iran and the world have been under pressure to make their research findings practical, in a way that serves policy making.
The requirement for the enlightening application of research is that the results of social science research be disseminated in society and lead, directly and indirectly, to the enlightenment of the thoughts of policy makers.
It might be surprising, but this is one of the most effective models of research influence on policymaking; meaning, policy makers usually use research when its results support their political and ideological positions.
The present article will follow this by reviewing the theories presented in the field of knowledge utilization to clarify the nature of the relationship between science and practice in policy making and, by examining the state of social research in Iran, to provide solutions for optimizing this relationship.
Weiss, Carol (1979) “The Many Meanings of Research Utilization”, Public 43 Informed policymakers who have been involved in the process of research for years can usually find practical ways to solve their problems themselves through direct and indirect use of this research, without the need for direct assistance from researchers.
In conclusion, the results of this preliminary research inside and outside the country show that although the country's researchers need to improve their scientific quality, the most important step to improving the relationship between science and practice, research and policy, in Iran must be taken by officials.
