Social capital is a type of accumulation that creates social cohesion, social commitment, and consequently a type of self-esteem and health in individuals. The erosion of social capital and disorder at macro and micro levels is the main source of the generation and increase of various social and psychological issues and damages. The present research was conducted with the aim of investigating the impact of social capital (in-group and out-group) on the mental health of Tabriz University students and the nature of the relationship between these two variables. The present research was conducted using a survey method, and the statistical population of the research is all students of Tabriz University in three levels: undergraduate, master's, and doctoral, among whom 300 people were studied using the Cochran formula and random sampling method. In the present study, the Goldberg General Health Questionnaire (GHQ-28) and a researcher-made social capital questionnaire were used to measure mental health. Pearson correlation statistical tests were used for data analysis. The results of the research showed that there is a significant relationship between social capital (in-group and out-group) and mental health, and there is a significant inverse relationship between social capital (in-group and out-group) and anxiety, social dysfunction, and depression. Another result of the research is that there is no significant relationship between social capital (in-group and out-group) and physical symptoms.
