The value chain concept is very compatible with the nature of industrial activities. Therefore، it is necessary to consider new dimensions for service organizations. The present study has been done with descriptive method and analyticalcritical approach. In this research، different models of value chain as well as their applications and challenges for educational institutions are introduced. In authors belief that methodological ambiguity، conceptual complexity، not considering the educational and learning theories in the model design، the lack of empirical studies، are the main challenges of the different models. This is the first comprehensive study in Iran introducing all the previous models of value chain and their challenges.

The compatibility of this concept with the nature of industrial organization activities led to its acceptance and application; however, as Porter believes, using this model in service organizations, including educational organizations, requires considering new dimensions; therefore, in the present study, which has been conducted using a descriptive method and an analytical-critical approach, while introducing value chain models, the challenges and suggestions for its application in educational organizations are examined.
Human resources, as the main axis of activities in educational organizations, are one of the intangible resources; accordingly, the importance of educational organizations, whose primary mission is the cultivation and development of human resources, is doubled (Eustace 1, 2003); however, in the last two decades, these organizations have experienced many transformations, including globalization, industrial expansion, changes in laws, the tendency toward accountability for educational quality, increased competition to attract more learners, demographic trends, and issues related to resource procurement; on the other hand, individuals' demand for faster, easier, and cheaper access to educational content, as well as the development of new technologies, has significantly affected teaching methods, the role of the teacher, and the educational environment, confronting educational organizations with diverse markets and different expectations of applicants; so much so that the concept of marketing has also permeated educational management, and educational marketing is considered one of the necessary skills for managers of such organizations.
