چکیده:
With the growing importance of environmental issues, all countries strive to achieve not only their economic goals but also to minimize environmental damage through proper planning and the use of appropriate methods. Corruption and foreign direct investment play an important role in the environmental quality of countries. Therefore, the aim of this research is to examine the role of corruption and foreign direct investment on the environmental quality of selected countries in the MENA region from 2012 to 2022. The results show that corruption and foreign direct investment, despite corruption acting as a barrier to its attraction in the region, lead to environmental degradation. Additionally, the pollution haven hypothesis is confirmed in this region.

Therefore, the aim of this research is to investigate the role of corruption and foreign direct investment on the environmental quality of selected countries in the MENA region during the years 2012 to 2014.
Foreign direct investment, regardless of the reason or form in which it occurs, has significant effects on macroeconomic variables, including reduction in interest rates, reduction in exchange rates, increased economic growth, increased government tax revenue, reduction in government debt, improved income distribution, technology transfer, increased employment, export development, reduced imports, and a positive impact on the balance of payments.
Therefore, given the importance of attracting FDI for countries and the presence of corruption and environmental policies as obstacles and accelerators for attracting FDI in developing countries, this research will use the panel data method to examine the effect of FDI in the presence of these two factors on environmental quality in a selection of countries in the MENA region during the years 2010 to 2019.
An increase in FDI*CORRUPTION (the interaction effect of foreign direct investment and corruption) leads to a decrease in the level of environmental pollution.
