چکیده:
The aim of this article is to evaluate the impact of intra-industry trade on the environmental quality of Iran with selected countries in three areas: East Asia, the Middle East, and OECD countries. The investigation emphasizes scale, selection, and technical effects during the years 1991 to 2007. CO2 data has been used to examine environmental quality. In this article, based on theoretical and empirical studies and in the form of an econometric model using panel data, the relationship between environmental quality and the increase in intra-industry trade is investigated. The estimation results in this period indicate a positive effect of GDP on pollution only in the second trade area. Furthermore, the results show that Iran has not been able to utilize its trade relations and the competition created under intra-industry trade to improve environmental quality.

Recently, most studies seeking to find the environmental effects of international trade are based on traditional trade theory, comparative advantage, and differences in the abundance of production factors (Antweiler et al.
Studies indicate that the relationship between international trade and the environment may be under the influence of trends such as the migration of polluting industries (Low & Yeats 1992, 12) or the pollution haven hypothesis (Mani & Wheeler 1998, 13), and the Environmental Kuznets Curve (Grossman & Krueger 1993, 14).
This theoretical extension, based on the traditional trade framework with the assumption of competition 10-Chichilnisky 11-Strutt & Anderson 12-Low & Yeats 13-Mani & Wheeler 14 -Grossman & krueger 15- Leonard & Duerksen of different sectors is complete and constant returns to scale.
In contrast, a theoretical framework that examines the trade effects on the environment using new trade theory and determines what effects the structural factors of the intra-industry trade model have on environmental quality is relatively scarce.
C- Decomposition of effects: scale, technical, and selection This section shows the decomposition of intra-industry trade effects in polluting goods on the total pollution emission level.
