چکیده:
Cities play an important role in population distribution and economic growth. Therefore, one of the aspects addressed in urban economics literature is the pattern of urban agglomeration and concentration and its impact on economic growth. In fact, urban concentration shows to what extent urban resources are concentrated in one or more large cities or dispersed among different cities. This article investigates the relationship between agglomeration (in the form of urban concentration) and economic growth using the Solow-Swan growth regression model in a selection of Asia-Pacific countries using panel data for the period 1980-2009. To this end, urban primacy indices and the ratio of the population living in large cities (Urban 750) were used as proxies for urban concentration and agglomeration. The results of estimating the economic growth model by entering the level and quadratic variables of urban primacy show that urban primacy affects economic growth in a quadratic form and this effect is inverse U-shaped. In other words, economic growth initially increases with increasing urban primacy, reaches a peak at a certain point, and after that, with further increases in urban primacy, economic growth decreases. Additionally, the coefficient of the Urban 750 variable is also positive and significant, indicating that agglomeration in cities with a population of more than 750,000 has a positive and significant linear relationship with economic growth.

The agglomeration 5 of economic firms in a limited geographical area leads to the creation of economies that bring about the growth and development of cities (Sabbagh Kermani, 2001).
Therefore, considering the stated points as well as the limitation of access to data, in this research, the effect of agglomeration and urban concentration 5 in the form of the primacy phenomenon as a substitute for agglomeration on the growth of selected Asia-Pacific countries is examined.
