چکیده:
The Purpose of the present study was to evaluate reliability and validity of Persian version of drive for muscularity scale in Gorganian Body builder men. After a rigorous translation and back-translation procedure، 400 men completed، Drive for muscularity scale، Exercise Dependence Scale، Eating Disorder Examination Questionnaire، And Clinical Impairment Assessment. Exploratory factor analysis revealed 3 factor solution named muscularity- oriented body image attitudes، muscularity-oriented behaviors، and drug use in order to developing muscles. These factors showed good to satisfactory internal consistency and convergent validity. The study provides primary evidence toward validity and reliability of Persian version of Drive for Muscularity scale. However، further studies need to establish validity of drug use in order to developing muscles. In addition، psychometric properties of the scale in other athletic majors and women should be assessed.
خلاصه ماشینی:
The findings of this study provide preliminary evidence regarding the appropriate validity and reliability of the Muscularity Orientation Scale; however, more research is needed to confirm the validity of the new factor (drug use for muscle development) and to investigate the psychometric properties of the scale in athletes of other sports.
Table 1: Demographic information of the subjects (Refer to page image) Measurement Tools Eating Disorder Examination Questionnaire (EDE-Q) (Fairburn & Beglin 1, 1994): This self-report tool consists of 28 items and measures the main characteristics related to eating disorders, such as excessive preoccupation with weight and shape, restrictive eating, binge eating episodes, and purging behaviors.
Clinical Impairment Assessment (CIA): This scale consists of 16 items and was developed to measure psychosocial functional impairment resulting from eating disorders (Bohn 5 & Fairburn, 2008).
Additionally, in this research, average internal consistency (muscularity-related behaviors) to satisfactory (attitude toward muscular body image and drug use for muscle building) was obtained for the factors of the Muscularity Tendency Scale.
Findings related to convergent validity showed that the attitude toward muscular body image and muscularity-related behavior factors have a significant positive relationship with the total score of the exercise dependence scale and its subscales.
Ricciardelli & McCabe the attitude toward muscular body image and muscularity-related behavior factors are consistent with the findings of previous studies (for example, Yates, Leehey, & Shisslak 1, 1983; Blaydon, Lindner, & Kerr 2, 2004; Zmijewski & Howard 3, 2003).
