چکیده:
The subject of this article is the analysis and explanation of the trend of the dominance of the Islamic movement in the contemporary political discourse of Turkey. In this article, while analyzing and briefly reviewing the approaches to explaining Islamic movements, the growth trend of political Islam in Turkey specifically is considered. To understand the contexts of the emergence of Islamic movements in Turkey, the experience of the elements reconstructing the rival discourse, namely Kemalism, is first addressed, and then three periods of political mobilization for Islamic movements in Turkey are examined. After demonstrating the discursive transformation that has occurred, the hegemonic context of the Justice and Development Party discourse is scrutinized. During different periods of the history of this republic, Islamic movements in Turkey, by utilizing existing political opportunities and awareness and recognition of Turkish society, have engaged in expanding organizational networks and formulating strategies and tactics to counter the dominant secularist current.

Turkish Islamic movements have a qualitative difference from these movements; such that these Islamic movements, which took shape from the 1940s onwards, considering the prevailing social and political atmosphere in Turkey, its political structure, and the influence of imported ideas such as communism and nationalism—which were mainly Western in flavor—have less sought violence in confronting the Western-oriented current of this country and have mostly operated within the framework of political parties.
Therefore, during the first period of political Islam mobilization in Turkey, secular military officers, as one of the country's main elites, through the deepening of democracy and the establishment of the Motherland Party as a political opportunity structure, worked to strengthen the Islamist merchant class.

Perhaps another reason why members of the Justice and Development Party do not show much inclination toward Islamist identity politics is that they view Islam as one of the social elements of Turkey and part of its tradition, rather than in the position of an ideology (Akdogan, 2003: 112-124).
