The European continent has always been the cradle for the emergence of security arrangements that considered themselves committed to European security. For example, the balance of power system and the Concert of Europe were among the most famous security systems in Europe. After World War II, due to the lack of an independent and specific security system to provide security, Europe relied on NATO, in which the United States played a major role. Consequently, for the first time, Europe relied on a security system that was not indigenous. After the collapse of the Soviet Union and the removal of its threat, member states of the European Union strove to have an independent security system, which led to the creation of the European Security and Defense Policy (ESDP). The main objective of this writing is to examine the relationship between NATO and the European Security and Defense Policy and its impact on European security.
