Among the creators of literary works, Khwaja Shams al-Din Mohammad Hafez Shirazi holds a special place. This distinction and prominence is due to various factors, including the fact that Hafez employed many artistic techniques in creating his works, many of which relate to his behavior and function with language and his method of word selection and word arrangement upon the chain of speech. Many Hafez scholars have exerted all their efforts to enter the world of Hafez's mind and language; although many of these efforts have achieved valuable results, the 'endless saga of Hafez' is still at the beginning of the road, and every day we witness persistent efforts in explaining, interpreting, and unraveling the intentions of the Khwaja of Shiraz, especially discovering the secrets and subtleties of his speech, as everyone looks at his works from a different angle. Hafez's ability to invoke and summon words upon the chain of discourse and his power of mental association are not hidden from anyone. In this article, to demonstrate a side of these abilities, the artistic function and connection of the two words or terms 'Del' (heart) and 'Zolf' (tress) in the ghazals of Hafez have been examined. In the Divan of Hafez, these two words have been used together and in connection with each other approximately 78 times (in units of verses), encountering a different image and interpretation each time. In this article, these artistic functions are divided into 22 categories, the investigation and analysis of which are the main objectives of this article.
