The application of information technology in organizations promises fundamental changes in all fields. Information technology helps organizations store their human resource information more securely, accessibly, and completely, and provides managers with better analysis and decision-making capabilities regarding the organization's human resources. With the entry of information technology into organizations, human resource management functions undergo changes. This change can be effective only if we first identify the activities that information technology can perform and provide the context for these activities to emerge. Subsequently, human resource management gains the necessary familiarity with new conditions so that it can enhance the performance of the organization's human resources by utilizing the capacities that information technology can create. One example of information technology that has become commonly used and essential in organizations today is the Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system. In this article, an attempt is made to examine the subject of information technology in human resource management. The researcher first provides definitions of the two subjects, information technology and human resource management, and after stating a brief history of these two topics, proceeds to examine the role of information technology in general and Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems in particular within human resource management.
