چکیده:
The rapid expansion of the internet and communication technologies in Islamic countries raises the question of what role these media and communication intermediaries play in social and political movements and transformations in these countries. This article analyzes the space that the internet and new technologies have provided to social movements and, as a case study, addresses the relationship between the internet and digital media with social movements in Egypt and the impact of the virtual activities of political society challengers on the social and political actions of this country. To this end, by using Charles Tilly's resource mobilization theory as an epistemological and methodological framework in analyzing social movements, we have examined the role and impact of cyberspace in the processes of the mobilization model (power, mobilization, interests, organization, repression/facilitation, and threat/opportunity) and the elements of the complete set of social movement display (values, solidarity, commitment, and numbers), showing that successful interaction between cyberspace and social movements results from a dynamic adaptation between the functions of social and political groups in the real world and the virtual world. Finally, this article shows a potential perspective regarding the internet and social activity in Islamic countries and is based on the assumption that the pattern of internet interaction helps the emergence and strengthening of some elements of Tilly's resource mobilization theory; especially if the internet shows empathy and companionship toward individuals' interests in the real world.

As a hypothesis regarding the relationship between these two realms (virtual society and social movements), it can be claimed that the facilities and elements of cyberspace can be effective in the processes of the mobilization model (power, mobilization, interests, organization, repression - facilitation and threat - opportunity) for the benefit of the social movement, challengers, and even members of the political community, and also assist in producing some elements of the "complete repertoire of social movement.
