چکیده:
Background and Objective: Proximity to the world's largest drug producers, being located on cheap transit routes for these substances, and specific ideological and value positions have caused the national security of the Islamic Republic of Iran to be affected by the issue of drug smuggling; therefore, this research was conducted with the aim of determining the impact of drug smuggling on the political, economic, social, and cultural dimensions of the national security of the Islamic Republic. Method: The present research was conducted using documentary and survey methods with the help of note-taking tools and questionnaires. The reliability of the researcher-made questionnaire was calculated as 0.88 using the Cronbach's alpha method, and the research hypotheses were tested using the Chi-square test. The statistical population of the study consisted of experts from the Presidential Anti-Narcotics Headquarters in the year 1388 (Solar Hijri). Findings: Analysis of the collected data showed a relationship between drug smuggling and the national security of Iran, and the four hypotheses of this research, based on the negative impact of drug smuggling on the political, social, cultural, and economic dimensions of national security, were confirmed at a 95% confidence level. Results: The results showed that drug smuggling has the greatest negative impact on the cultural dimension of national security by hindering human development, and the least negative impact on economic security through increased law enforcement-judicial costs; also, the negative impact of drug smuggling becomes evident in the social dimension by increasing crimes and in the political dimension by undermining the political credibility of the regime at the regional and global levels.

The threat to the sovereignty and security of countries, the fundamental foundations of society, and the organized nature of drug trafficking (Banahri, 2004), are factors that have made attention to the issue and global problem of drugs necessary not only at the national level but also at the international level; although the issue of drug trafficking is an international problem, having the most suitable position for its distribution and transit, the specific religious situation, the social situation and the youthfulness of the population, the economic situation and youth unemployment, and the deprivations and natural limitations existing in the eastern borders of the country, has made Iran highly vulnerable to these substances and has caused a large portion of the country's material and spiritual strength to be spent on combating drug caravans and addressing its consumption within the country.
Findings: Analysis of the collected data showed the existence of a relationship between drug smuggling and the national security of Iran, and the four hypotheses of this research, based on the negative impact of drug smuggling on the political, social, cultural, and economic dimensions of national security, were confirmed at a 95 percent confidence level.
