چکیده:
The present article is the result of research conducted on the social and economic consequences of the displacement and integration of villages in the earthquake-stricken region of Rudbar and Manjil. Following the occurrence of the aforementioned earthquake, in June 1990, during the reconstruction of the earthquake-damaged areas, approximately 170 villages were displaced. Of this number, 46 villages, in addition to being displaced, were subject to integration with other village(s). The present study, with a look at existing theoretical approaches regarding the research topic, attempts to examine the transformations and consequences of village integration in the earthquake-stricken region of Rudbar and Manjil within the framework of a development-oriented strategy. The method of conducting this study was qualitative, and the research data were collected using several methods, including documentary data, questionnaires, in-depth interviews, and field observations. The research findings show that the displacement and integration of villages physically resulted in increasing the capacity of the aforementioned villages against natural social hazards and their access to certain infrastructural facilities. However, alongside this, displacement and integration have brought about transformations that, socially and economically, have created vulnerabilities for the residents of these villages, at least in the short term.

Considering the close connection of rural communities with the natural environment and the fact that a large part of the villages have been shaped under the influence of natural factors such as rivers, springs, mountains, and other factors of this kind, spatial relocation and their transfer to another location undoubtedly causes ruptures in their social, economic, natural, and even emotional ties with nature and raises issues regarding the adaptation of people to the new environment.
Tönnies, by distinguishing between two social groups based on the population factor (1)- schaefer & lamm has been accepted: A) In the new location, some villages faced spatial limitations and a shortage of built-up area for constructing buildings, which has hindered the expansion of families and the development of the living areas of relocated and merged families.
(1)- transformation approach (2)- resettlement projects &%00215IOMG002G% Supportive Perspective The argument of some regional and national decision-makers and policymakers in agreement with the displacement and merger of villages is based on the fact that the dispersion of villages across multiple points of the land is considered a major obstacle to rural development, and by concentrating service units in rural areas, their efficiency can be increased, and people's living conditions will become more desirable through the spatial and locational concentration of services (Rahmati, 1995:46).
