The use of the term "Hekayat" (anecdote/tale) in the writings of the authors and critics of the first Persian novels, as well as the innovations made by one of the pioneers of modern literature, namely Seyyed Mohammad Ali Jamalzadeh, in compiling the short stories of the collection "Yeki Bud Yeki Nabud" (Once Upon a Time), are indicative of this indebtedness.
This movement, which is mostly presented in the form of short stories, took on a more national character and, more than novel writing, became indebted to the Iranian literary tradition and storytelling in terms of both technique and concepts, as well as the utilization of themes from oral literature.
"32 Therefore, we conclude that simple writing became the basis for Jamalzadeh to turn to folk culture; thus, before anything else, we need an accurate understanding of this type of Persian prose, which the author calls "romanic or narrative prose," and he provides the following guidelines for it: 1- Narrative prose must be the medium for expressions, proverbs, idioms, various structures of speech, and different dialects.
