چکیده:
The main issue of this article is the recognition of the myth of ascent in Iranian thought and examining its reflection in Ferdowsi's Shahnameh. In the myths of peoples who believe in an upper world after death, there are different ways to ascend to that realm. For example, ladders, staircases, hot air balloons, spider webs, rainbows, etc., are some of the ways to ascend to the celestial world. Among the ancient Iranians, the way to ascend to the higher world passes through 'Mount Alborz'. In this article, after depicting the ritual image of Mount Alborz in Iranian mythology and Ferdowsi's Shahnameh, the ascent of kings and heroes such as Fereydun, Zal, Kay Qobad, and Kay Khosrow over Alborz is examined. During the period of pure childhood, due to an incident, they find the way above Alborz, which is the gateway to Gruthman (Paradise). In this ascension, the body and soul of the heroes accompany each other. After this stage, the perfected heroes, acting as saviors who appear before Farashkard (the era of the world's reconstruction), each perform wonderful deeds and rise up to fight enemies. Finally, after death, their souls—which is the natural return of all good souls to Minu—once again rest above Alborz and in Gruthman.
