چکیده:
In this essay, which was conducted within the framework of preliminary studies for drafting the fifth development plan for the higher education sector, an attempt has been made to present strategies by highlighting various concepts and approaches to the challenges that globalization poses to higher education systems, including the Iranian higher education system, to serve as a scientific guide for drafting the country's higher education development plan in the fifth development plan. Therefore, first, to understand the complex concept of globalization, which in the higher education sector is referred to as the internationalization of universities, its historical process has been examined. Then, to extend theoretical concepts into the realm of action, the effects and consequences of this phenomenon in developed countries, developing countries, and international institutions have been analyzed. Finally, in order to make the findings of this research more applicable in the national arena, the status of the Iranian higher education system in the process of global internationalization has been subjected to a comparative study based on a pathological meta-analysis using two fundamental approaches: the knowledge society and the information society.

In any case, as many thinkers in this field emphasize, without having a correct and clear understanding of these concepts [globalization-internationalization of higher education], it is impossible to examine the effects and consequences of vague conceptualizations and, consequently, to engage in appropriate action in that realm.
General findings and the status of higher education in Iran in the process of globalization – globalizing: a pathology approach In Table 2, an abstract of collected theoretical and empirical studies is presented, which can provide insight into the divergence between the two concepts of globalization – internationalization within the two paradigms of knowledge society and information society.
