Sensory blending—the mixing of characteristics from two senses among the five external senses—is derived from imaginary forms and has a long history of use in Persian literature, but its naming and prevalence date back to the contemporary period. In this example, after mentioning introductions and presenting the background of sensory blending, information regarding its rhetorical structure and grammatical form is provided. Subsequently, the types of sensory blending in the ghazals of Bidel Dehlavi are presented in terms of the combination of sensory characteristics with one another—which includes nine types. Finally, another type of this literary subtlety is introduced—which is the result of combining an abstract (intellectual) concept with a characteristic of the external senses—and the fivefold classification we have considered for it is addressed.
