Iranology, New Series, Year 14 (Image Image) Figure 1: Map of Tehran, drawn by Ilya Nikolayvitch Berezin, 1852 AD, the original of which is preserved in the library of Golestan Palace Before describing and analyzing Korosh's map, it is necessary to mention the establishment of the Dar al-Funun school in Tehran.
The construction work of the detailed Dar al-Funun building began in 1849 (1266 AH) according to the design of Mirza Reza Mohandes, the assistant minister of Mohammad Taqi Khan, the chief architect (Source 2-Page 693), and was completed in 1850 (1267 AH), and was inaugurated the following year, 1851.
It seems that during the early stages of Korosh's employment, Amir Kabir may have encouraged him to draw the map of the city of Tehran; for when Mirza Taqi Khan was a young resident of Tabriz and in the service of the Crown Prince (the future Nasir al-Din Shah), a commission was formed to determine the definitive borders between Iran and the Ottoman Empire, which had always been a subject of dispute, with the presence of representatives from both countries as well as Russian and English representatives acting as arbitrators and mediators.
In 1877, Dr. Polak published this map and another map that Krush had prepared of the outskirts of Tehran with the help of six students from the Dar al-Funun school, in one of the Austrian geographical journals published in the city of Vienna (Source 5 and Image 3).
