Of course, it must be noted that the emphasis on the necessity of establishing civil society in Iran and the defense of its encouraging forces and factors should not turn into an idealistic and unrealistic perception of non-governmental organizations and institutions, as in that case, the decisive role of the state and the class complexity of society will be overlooked.
In the second period, which continues to this day, the exclusive focus of Iranologists has been on the state and its structure, and all their efforts have been devoted to studying the ideology, internal factions, cultural and social insights, economic efficiency, political behavior, and foreign policy of the Islamic government.
Civil Society in Today's Iran When studying civil society in Iran, especially when examining its political-ideological discourses, it must be noted that until recent years, addressing some of the main political and social topics in the country and exchanging views about them was practically impossible, and discussions regarding categories such as the relationship with the United States and Israel, Velayat-e Faqih, women's rights, democracy, corruption in the government apparatus, and the problems of youth had no place in mass media.
In this way, while non-political clerics were able to maintain more of their unity bonds, political clerics, when faced with the political and economic realities of governing society and being forced to make decisions regarding Iran's relations with the world, were quickly divided into right and left, traditional and modern, pragmatic and ideological, and similar groups.
