12 Farvardin; Islamic Republic Day After the overthrow of the illegitimate Taghut regime and the coming to power of the provisional government led by Imam Khomeini (RA) in the final days of Bahman 1357, the people of Iran went to the ballot boxes on the 10th and 11th of Farvardin 1358, participated in the referendum to choose the Islamic Republic, and voted (yes) for the Islamic Republic with a majority of 98. Thus, the 12th of Farvardin was named the Islamic Republic Day. 17 Rabi' al-Awwal; Blessed Birth of the Prophet of Islam (PBUH) The Great Prophet of Islam (PBUH) opened his eyes to the world on the 17th of Rabi' al-Awwal in the Year of the Elephant, corresponding to the year 570 AD, in the city of Mecca. 3 years later, in 1889, the International Workers' Congress in Paris, upon the suggestion of the representative of the workers of the United States, designated May 1st as International Workers' Day. Imam Khomeini (RA) also, 2 months after the victory of the Islamic Revolution on the date of 11 Ordibehesht 58, issued a message on the occasion of Workers' Day and expressed gratitude for the services of this hardworking class of society. Finally, this great thinker and philosopher was assassinated on the night of 12 Ordibehesht 58 by elements of the Furqan group and joined the meeting with Allah; Imam Khomeini (RA) declared 3 days of public mourning on the occasion of his martyrdom. To commemorate the blood unjustly shed by these martyrs, Imam Khomeini declared the fifteenth of Khordad as a day of public mourning every year.
