This caravan consisted of two people: Mohammad Kazem, the son of Abbas Mirza's chief painter, to learn painting in the new style, and Haji Baba Afshar, the son of one of the Iranian officers, to learn medicine and pharmacology, along with the ambassador of the British government, Brigadier Ford Jones Bridge4, who departed from Tehran in Ramadan or Shawwal 1266, despite the objections of James Murray (the chargé d'affaires of the British Embassy in Iran).
16 This school was officially inaugurated thirteen days before the assassination of Amir Kabir, on Sunday, the fifth of Rabi' al-Awwal, 1268 AH, by Nasir al-Din Shah, under the chairmanship of Reza Qoli Hedayat, the head of Majma' al-Fusaha, with seven Austrian teachers and a number of French, Dutch, and Polish scholars who were previously in Iran, along with several translators selected from among the students sent to France in 1266 AH.
Some also continued their studies abroad at their own expense, as Mahboubi Ardakani mentions in the book "The Evolution of the University of Tehran and Higher Education Institutions in Iran during the Pahlavi Era" a person named Mirza Ali Dr. Hamedani, who had gone to Europe at his own expense; and a number of children of political officials and Iranian ambassadors in foreign countries also pursued education, which was more common, because during the duration of their mission, the education of their children was considered a natural matter, and even after that, due to the connections and acquaintances created, undertaking this matter was possible for them.
