However, in any case, considering the link between policies in domestic and foreign domains, Iran's security policymaking is influenced by the country's vulnerabilities and is oriented towards preserving its own survival and commitment to revolutionary ideals. The authors, for a better understanding of Iran's security policies, point to the use of the following approaches: - Attention to the major drivers and motivations in Iran's security policymaking - Attention to the functions and programs of security institutions and the armed forces, especially the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps - Examining the decision-making process in the field of security issues The second chapter of the book is dedicated to examining the fundamental sources of Iran's foreign and security policy. Of course, ambiguity and complexity are inherent in the field of decision-making in security domains; however, in the case of Iran, this characteristic is more influenced by the multiplicity of institutions, the involvement of non-state actors, and also the personal nature of power relations. The influence of these institutions on Iran's policies in regions such as the Persian Gulf, Central Asia, and the Caucasus is also subject to geopolitical considerations and the perception of Iranian military and security officials regarding the importance of threats from these areas, especially the presence of Iran's rival powers such as the United States and Israel.
