Journals, due to the diversity and scope of content in various fields and the rapid dissemination of information, have more audiences in different fields compared to other information media. However, today the emergence of new information technologies such as the internet and the possibility of electronic storage and retrieval of information has increased the attractiveness and prosperity of electronic journals. In order to make user access to these information resources possible, libraries incur huge costs and are actively searching for alternatives to the traditional printed journal publishing model. One of these models is the use of free electronic journals. The high cost of procuring subscription printed and electronic journals has caused libraries to turn to free electronic journals. This article reviews research related to the expansion of the use of free and non-free electronic journals by academic communities and the perspectives of various users regarding these resources, and concludes that the existence of electronic journals and free electronic journals is vital for libraries given the technological developments of the new information age, and libraries and information centers must, in addition to providing these types of journals, take steps to make them accessible through technological tools.

This article aims to examine the perspectives of academic users regarding the use of non-free electronic journals by introducing research conducted in this field, along with studies carried out regarding the importance of free electronic journals and the identification of these journals.
Below, several studies are mentioned that have investigated the extent of use of non-free electronic journals by academic users, especially students and university faculty members, and their attitudes toward this type of journal.
They concluded that although students use electronic resources more for performing their research assignments, printed books and journals play an important role in the production of scientific information due to their constant accessibility and high quality of texts ((5:381-392)).
His research results showed that 40 percent of faculty members considered the role of printed and electronic scientific journals in advancing their scientific level to be "high," although the majority of them evaluated the correspondence of this category of information resources with their own information needs as "low.
