چکیده:
To investigate the therapeutic effect of three methods—using clomipramine, using hydroxyzine, and behavior therapy—in the treatment of trichotillomania, 15 clients aged 5 years and older (4 men, 11 women) with a mean age of 19.3 years were studied in 3 groups of 5 people for a period of six weeks. The tools used in this research consisted of three questionnaires: a diary of the number of hairs pulled, a diary of hair-pulling behavior, and a visual comparison scale. Research data were analyzed using the t-test and analysis of variance (ANOVA) with the help of SPSS software. The results showed that in the behavior therapy group, the severity of the disorder decreased more than in the other two groups, and this difference was statistically significant. In terms of reducing the number of hairs pulled, the behavior therapy method was more successful than the other two methods, but the existing difference was not statistically significant. Clomipramine treatment was more effective than hydroxyzine treatment, although the difference between these two was also not statistically significant.

Keywords: trichotillomania, clomipramine, hydroxyzine, habit reversal Trichotillomania1 refers to an obsessive impulse and urge to pull hair, to the extent that the individual cannot resist the tension resulting from this impulse and proceeds to pull the hair from their head and face.
15 patients (4 men and 11 women) were selected from the clients of the Isfahan Child and Adolescent Counseling and Mental Health Clinic, those for whom a diagnosis of trichotillomania based on the criteria of16 DSM-IV (American Psychiatric Association, 1994) was established, and they were studied as research subjects.
Although those who suffer from behavioral disorders such as trichotillomania accept long-term medication use, behavioral therapy methods, given the higher cooperation of the patient in treatment, lower cost, and the results obtained from this study, are superior to pharmacological treatment of trichotillomania.
In terms of the mean number of hairs pulled before and after treatment, no significant difference was observed in the three treatment groups (Table 2).
In terms of the degree of disorder reduction, only in the habit reversal group was the difference between the pre-treatment and post-treatment means significant, although in the clomipramine and hydroxyzine groups, the mean severity of the disorder also decreased after treatment.
Discussion of Results The prevalence of trichotillomania disorder is reported to be higher in children and women than in other groups (Kaplan and Sadock, 1995).
