چکیده:
The aim of the present study was to investigate the relationship between cardiorespiratory fitness and body fat with risk factors for coronary heart disease (CHD) in adolescent boys aged 15 to 18 years. To this end, 36 adolescent boys with a mean age of 16.1 ± 2.1 years, height of 175.5 ± 5.56 kg [Note: original text likely meant weight/height metrics], were selected as subjects using cluster random sampling (9 individuals from each age group). The subjects completed relevant health questionnaires and consent forms. The research measurements included: determining body weight, height, body mass index (BMI), estimating body fat percentage, assessing aerobic capacity, and determining certain CHD risk factors (Total Cholesterol (TC), Triglycerides (TG), High-Density Lipoprotein (HDL), Systolic Blood Pressure (SBP), and Diastolic Blood Pressure (DBP)). Results using Pearson's correlation coefficient showed that aerobic fitness had a significant relationship only with one CHD risk factor, namely TG levels (P > 0.05). However, a significant correlation was observed between body mass and four risk factors (TG, HDL, SBP, DBP), and between body fat percentage and three risk factors (TC, SBP, DBP) out of the six measured factors (P > 0.05). Therefore, there are significant relationships between body composition indices and CHD risk factors (serum lipids and blood pressure), whereas there is no relationship or a very weak relationship between cardiorespiratory fitness and CHD risk factors. Based on the research results, it appears that the health status of students at these ages is more influenced by body fat, and contrary to what is suggested in adults where cardiorespiratory fitness is considered a preventive factor for CHD, it does not have much effect at younger ages. Therefore, preventing obesity during childhood and adolescence is emphasized as a preventive factor for CHD.

The research measurements were as follows: determination of body weight, height, body mass index (BMI), estimation of body fat percentage, assessment of aerobic capacity, and determination of certain CHD risk factors (Total Cholesterol (TC), Triglycerides (TG), High-Density Lipoprotein (HDL), Systolic Blood Pressure (SBP), and Diastolic Blood Pressure (DBP)).
Additionally, the results of this research have shown that there is a strong relationship between body fat percentage and CHD risk factors, and higher levels of cardiorespiratory fitness and lower amounts of fat are accompanied by more desirable cholesterol levels (15).
Although a higher level of aerobic fitness is consistently associated with a favorable profile of CHD risk factors in children, several studies have shown that the probability of this relationship being with body fat and obesity is greater than with aerobic fitness (17, 18, 19).
Research Findings The physiological and anthropometric characteristics of the statistical sample are shown in Table 1, and the correlation coefficient or relationship between cardiorespiratory fitness, body composition, and CHD risk factors is presented in Table 2 (1).
