چکیده:
Mental health encompasses the absence of mental illness and a state of well-being. In this regard, one of the goals of the World Health Organization is to reduce the incidence of mental illnesses. The financial and social burden of mental illnesses imposes great pressure on the governments of most societies. The decline in performance and reduction in economic productivity of populations affected by mental illness is an undeniable reality. Given that most people suffering from mental illness are young people, the attention and efforts of governments around the world toward this matter are essential. Unfortunately, a portion of the youth who suffer from mental illness are students. Just as the problems and mental illnesses of students can cause irreparable damage to societies, promoting the level of mental health and treating the psychological problems of students are matters that must be taken seriously. To this end, a study was conducted to examine the mental health of students at Islamic Azad University. The statistical population included all students entering the clinical psychology program at Islamic Azad University, Tonekabon Branch, in the year 1379 (2000/2001), from whom 120 people (60 women and 60 men) were randomly selected. Since the goal of the research was to investigate the prevalence of depression among these students, the Beck Depression Inventory was provided to them. The results showed that 29.82% of all students were depressed, of whom 19.1% had moderate depression, 33.3% had relatively severe depression, and 0.83% had severe depression. The average depression of female students was higher than that of male students (9.8 and 6.5) and this difference was statistically significant (P=0.05). The average depression of single students was higher than that of married students (5.4 and 3.2) and this difference was statistically significant (P=0.01). The average depression of non-native students was higher than that of native students (6.7 and 4) and this difference was statistically significant (P=0.05). In this regard, models for intervention in the field of prevention and treatment of mental illnesses in students have been proposed. Some universities in the world use these intervention models to help students and promote their level of mental health. It seems that a combination of solutions and strategies related to various models from foreign universities can be employed in our country's universities. In this article, a number of intervention models are presented.
