A Brief Explanation of Psychoanalysis Written by Sigmund Freud Translated by Hossein Payandeh A It can be said that psychoanalysis came into being simultaneously with the twentieth century, because the book that introduced this theory to the world as a new phenomenon (my work titled The Interpretation of Dreams) was published in the year "1900".
Charcot himself did not attempt further to explain hysteria in psychological terms, but his student Pierre Janet 1 continued the research on this subject and, with the help of artificial sleep, was able to prove that hysterical symptoms are entirely subject to certain unconscious thoughts.
In this way, new evidence was obtained proving the existence of unconscious mental processes ــ which possessed a special force precisely because of their unconscious nature ــ processes that were revealed to us for the first time in the symptoms following artificial sleep.
It was stated in this book that the reason for the emergence of hysterical symptoms is that the emotional state of a mental process endowed with power 'Impulse' is a term applied in psychoanalysis to any strong and sudden urge, especially to desires originating from the 'Id'; see note number 39 regarding the Id.
The factors in question are: emphasis on instinctual life (emotional affectivity); emphasis on the dynamics of [processes of] the mind; emphasis on the fact that even seemingly completely unknown and unaccountable mental phenomena always have meaning and a cause; the theory of psychic conflict and the pathological nature of repression; the belief that symptoms [of neurosis] are substituted satisfactions; the etiological diagnosis of the importance of sexual life and especially the importance of the sources of sexual inclination in childhood.
