Subsequently, psychoanalytic observers noticed that the distinct characteristics of the attitude of narcissistic patients are also observed in many individuals suffering from other illnesses (for example, ــ as Sadger 1 has pointed out ــ in homosexuals) and finally, it seemed probable that perhaps the libidinal force is involved in this illness to a degree far greater than previously imagined ــ in such a way that it could be called narcissism ــ and also that the libidinal force can affect the conventional sexual development of humans.
This matter causes us to consider the narcissism arising from the turning of energy inward, where psychic cathexis in the objects of drives 4 , as a kind of secondary narcissism that Regarding this subject, refer to my discussion on "The End of Time" in [Part Three] of Analysis of Evil; also refer to Abraham, 1908.
He writes: "At the same time, this point must also be noted (a point that Freud implicitly refers to in his book regarding the method of treating Schreber [ 1911 ]) that the introversion of sexual libidinal force leads to the psychic transference to the 'ego', and that this subject probably causes the loss of [ the functioning of ] reality [ in the patient's mind].
Here we can dare to briefly address the issue of what fundamentally causes our mental life to go beyond the limits of narcissism and direct libidinal energy 'regression' occurs when the 'ego' is unable to inhibit the impulses of libidinal energy based on what Freud calls the 'reality principle', and thus the individual adopts childish behaviors or ways of thinking that belong to previous stages of their psychic development.
