چکیده:
The paper is to study the status of marriage and its limitations on the basis of secondary analysis and the data obtained from the 2006 head count. The results show that the ratio of unmarried population is different concerning age groups، and urban and rural areas. In addition، with the rise of level of education، the level of unmarried population increases، though this increase for both sexes in rural areas is more than that in urban areas. The results of calculating marriage limitations too show that up to 2011 the girls have limitations، while 2011-2021 the boys will have such limitations. However، this limitation is not much intense and the youths will be able to cope with the flexible market of marriage and the age-based distribution of the available partners.
خلاصه ماشینی:
Regarding the existence or non-existence of this phenomenon in Iran and its subsequent consequences, various viewpoints have been raised; some believe that no problem called marriage squeeze exists in society (see Koshi, 1383), while others emphasize its existence and have even provided statistics on the number of individuals who do not marry due to the current situation caused by the sex ratio imbalance (see Jafari Mozdehi, 1382; Doroudi, 1383).
At least three important factors in mid-life affect the marriage market; fertility fluctuations which, due to the lack of age-appropriate cross-sex(1) individuals, cause a marriage squeeze; the increase in sex differences in mortality, which leads to a significant decrease in the sex ratio in subsequent years; and the third factor, which is much more important, is the functioning of age-based mate selection norms, which causes gross differences and disparities in the pool of eligible candidates for both women and men.
The decrease in the proportion of the population married at least once and the increase in age at first marriage in Iranian society, especially regarding girls, is a reality that has been influenced by a set of factors affecting development, particularly the level of education.
However, in societies where the range of mate selection and the average age gap between spouses is large, using this method to calculate the sex ratio by age groups will result in errors in estimating the marriage squeeze; because the index of the average age difference between spouses, considering that it is affected by the extreme values of the age distribution, is a general and ignores differences.
