Introduction: The present study was conducted with the aim of investigating the mediating role of motivation to progress in the relationship between parents' mental health and children's academic success. Method: This research is descriptive-correlational in terms of the type of research method and applied in terms of purpose. In the current research, all the students of the first secondary level of Maku city, with the number of 2002 people, formed the statistical population. Using simple random sampling, a statistical sample was selected from among the students' parents. In order to measure the variables, Goldberg's mental health questionnaire, Bernard Weiner's achievement motivation questionnaire and Wells' academic success questionnaire (2010) were used. The Kolmogorov-Smirnov test was used to determine the normality of the data. Due to the non-normality of the data distribution, structural equation analysis using the partial least squares method was used to test the hypotheses. Findings: The findings showed that: a) Parents' mental health had a positive and significant effect on students' academic success. b) Parents' mental health has had a positive and significant effect on students' progress motivation. c) Progress motivation has had a positive and significant effect on students' academic success. d) mental health of parents with the mediating role of motivation to progress has a positive and significant effect on the academic success of students, and the results of combined reliability, extracted variance, coefficient of determination of the model and goodness of fit index showed that the model drawn in the field of path analysis of empirical assumptions - It has a good opinion and has a very good fit. Conclusion: The favorable and healthy growth of children in all aspects depends on effective and favorable communication between parents and children, and the mental health of family members, especially parents, can affect the behavior of children. Considering the positive effect of the motivation to progress on the academic success of students, it is necessary for parents to choose emotional and friendly behaviors in front of their children and avoid blaming, insulting and punishing the children in order to motivate students to provide the basis for their academic success.
