Journalism has a long history in Iran At least since the 1960s,
the importance of teaching journalism through colleges or
educational texts has been emphasized. Some texts have
attempted to forge a link between the experience of journalism in
Iran and its principles. The book “How to Become a Journalist”
in four sections tries to present a general picture of the various
professions in journalism to those who are interested in the field or
are currently participating in it. The first part of the book clarifies
the journalism background, the second is about professional
principles, the third covers studying journalism in the university,
and the fourth is dedicated to finding jobs and apprenticeships. In
addition, each of the four part has a section “Ask a Professor”, in
which journalism professors answer questions about journalism.
In this paper, we tried to evaluate the applicability of each chapter
of the book and the adaptation of its content to Iranian journalism
and, finally, to review the book critically.
