This research focuses on the political environment created by Persianlanguage
users of Twitter›s social network during the 12th presidential
election in Iran. In a more precise way, it describes the political orientations
(political preferences and political insights), electoral strategies, and the
political interactions of the Iranian users of Twitter, in order to clarify
how these users have expressed their existence in the political context,
what desires and demands are expressed and how they are communicated
with congruous and incongruous users on political issues. To study this,
qualitative methodology and inductive thematic analysis method were
used. The relevant data were downloaded from the Twitter Web site, with
theoretical sampling being gradually selected and qualitatively coded.
Researchers found that at the time, three political movements were active
on Twitter, which had significant differences in terms of political insight.
This difference manifests itself in the differences in election strategies.
The typology of the methods and techniques of political interaction
of users is one of the other findings of the present study. The authors
conclude that current theories do not work well for the non-reductive
analysis of attitude and political interactions in the new social networks
and users of these networks are more active.
