Introduction: The major depressive disorder is a long and lasting disorder, resulting in the creation of major functional and social disorders. According to the World Health Organization, the major depressive disorder will become the second major cause of disease worldwide in 2020. The purpose of this paper is to present a second - order nonlinear dynamic model for the underlying depression disorder using computational modelling that can justify the conditions of occurrence and return of depression periods.
Method: In this model, two mathematical equation are presented which consist of several effective quantities in the generation of major depressive disorder such as the volume of the hippocampus, serotonin levels, amygdala volume, psychological external factors and unpredictable processes and the background of previous periods of the patient is considered. In modeling, model's data has been studied on periods of 1002 depressed people, in a 64-year normal life span.
Results: The results of the model show that in the dynamic model, duration curve of depression in patients under the antidepressants drugs and the third wave cognitive behavioral therapy is widespread, and the mean is 1019 days.
Conclusions: The study developed a mathematical framework, which will eventually lead to the development of more detailed models for a major depressive disorder and a better understanding of the major depression disorder and its effects on cognitive processes.
